What Is In This Blog?

Relationships, family, marriage, men, women, their children, life, college, “failure to start”, success, and any other type of key word I can fit in here. Welcome to the Chris Oneth MFTi blog! (I hope you can stay). I am a teacher, counselor, husband, father, son, and friend—not necessarily in that order. I am currently a counselor/therapist at Downey Park Counseling Associates and an Adjunct Professor of Biblical Counseling at The Kings University. I am working toward my licensure under the tutelage and supervision of Wess Ferguson LMFT, whose insight and mentorship have proven invaluable.

What I hope to do with this space is provide thought, insight, some expertise (although that is a moving target) and empathy. I am amazed at people and how they operate toward the world and toward each other. I often tell people I have the greatest job in the world—I get to shine a light and give a tool, then watch them do the work! I also like to tell people I am professional question asker, pinpointing thoughts and actions that cause issues. Because of my teaching background I also do public speaking, training, and seminars so if you see something that resonates with you and your crew than check out my website at chrisoneth.com.

It is my hope that the following pages have something that everyone can pull from. We are a people that do not (cannot) exist by ourselves and so must learn how to operate in relationship toward one another. To that end I will be discussing the “12 Relational Distortions” that we are all prone to. If you find you and your significant other “always” arguing then you may benefit from “Stages of Conflict”. Men, are you a man? Then you probably never want to go to therapy as long as you live, in which case I will be discussing, “Why Men ‘Hate’ Therapy”. Are you stuck in your career/life and do not know how to move forward? Then I will be posting “8 Steps to Getting Unstuck”. With each post I hope to spin off other posts, and even bring in outside resources (one person cannot do all the heavy lifting!). Some entries will be short with some observations, others longer; still others will have to be broken up into a series. If you have any thoughts or insights please like my Facebook page Chris Oneth MFTi and “lay it on down”, if not, that’s okay too. I am really hoping to help you or someone you know, so feel free to forward stuff.

I consider it a blessing that I am able to do this, but the real blessing is getting to know people and helping them. It is remarkable to see people work hard and succeed—as I have said before I merely provide a flashlight and a tool. I am also looking forward to some of your insights as the issues I bring forth bring about interaction and discussion. Thank you so much for taking the time to read through this and the posts to come—leave a comment and tell a friend!
